Welcome to ABCD Europe

ABCD Europe is a place to discuss, share and deepen ways to apply the principles and practices of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) and other strengths-based approaches.

The idea was hatched at the first ABCD European summit in Liverpool, where we were joined by 150 ABCD enthusiasts from the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland.

Today we know that there are enthusiasts across Europe who recognise that there is more to a good life than services and more at stake than money.

Please let us know if you have any ideas for growing this community - we want it to be a place where all are welcome to share and learn from each other.

Warm regards,
Cormac Russell, International ABCD Institute faculty

My colleague and I are delivering the first session of our asset based wellbeing project on Saturday (12 May), following our launch event a couple of weeks ago.

We would like to introduce participants to asset mapping and capacity inventories and support them to use either or both of these tools in their neighbourhoods.

We're a little stuck because although we've both been trained in Participatory Appraisal, we haven't used asset mapping other than a quick demo in a session…

Why Carpentary for the Man's Shed?

Since man was able to walk on two legs he has been able to make things out of wood, making this the earliest trade of all, with the possible exception of pottery coming in a close second.

Even when metal was discovered and cast iron items were made, pattern makers had to first make the item out of wood so that the sand mould could be made to take the molton metal.

Carpentary used to be taught in most schools,…
