ABCD Europe

Asset-based community development in action, all over Europe.

Hi all,

It's always nice to know a bit about who you're talking too, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling with a bit of a hello & intro from me...

I'm Sophie, I'm Development Officer - Communications at CDX (Community Development Exchange), based in Sheffield, England. I previously also worked at NAVCA, as well as in Universities for almost a decade. My role focuses on producing communications for CDX members, primarily our Magazine and monthly e-zine, so please do get in touch if you'd like to submit articles about community development, or have an event or resource you'd like to promote to our 1,000+ members. If you'd like to receive our ebulletins you can sign up now.

Outside of work, I've lived most of my life in Derby, often have my nose stuck in a book, am a passionate music lover, and collect hats, sunglasses and (unwittingly) cats.

I'm looking forward to hearing a bit more about you all (hopefully), so please do feel free to jot down a few lines!

Sophie

Hi all,

Like Sophie I work as CDX (Community Development Exchange) in Sheffield. I'm the Development Officer - Policy at CDX. Much of my work over the past year has been on the Big Society and Localism agenda.

In my spare time I like being with the family, reading, watching films, theatre and football.

Hi All,

I am a police sergeant and hold the post of  youth issues manager for Cornwall. My work involves helping young people to avoid or leave the youth justice system and I have set up several projects with this in mind - the most successful being the TR14ers Community Dance Team. You might like to take a look at my personal website:  www.reconnecting-police.co.uk  for an overview of the work with supporting BBC TV and Radio programmes, magazine articles and a documentary film.

Out of work I support one of  the above projects as a volunteer and board member, am the President of my village rugby club and enjoy cycling and reading. I published my first book Connecting with People in 2009 and in 2010 graduated with an MA: Education in which my dissertation was on mutual learning between the police and children. We have two sons at University.

Hi All,

Until recently I was the Head of Youth Services for Wiltshire Council, now semi retired (although after all the late nights, long days and weekend working in my previous roles, it does feel like full-time retirement!). Was instrumental in developing Community Area Young People's Issues Groups across the whole of Wiltshire and ensuring that young people had a place at the Wiltshire Community Area Boards. I think we are progressing in the right direction in Wiltshire with regard to localism and, with further work, will be able to realise some really positive progress towards ABCD. Still involved with a couple of national charities and actually love twitter! Out of "work", I enjoy photography, reading and sailing.
